How Does Rachel Hollis Do It All

When my friends at ZzzQuil reached out and asked me if I ever used their product I had to laugh. I am deep in the middle of toting your project around the country with me, I told them. I keep it packed in my toiletry bag because I have a really hard time falling asleep in hotel rooms, and since I’m writing this very post from the fourth hotel room I’ve stayed in the last twenty days you can bet it’s on my list.

They told me it was awesome to hear that I use the product and asked if I could speak to their new campaign idea, Bring Your Best. I can… and I will, but I prefer to think of this post more as a How to Stay Sane When You’re Life is Crazy concept. February has been absolutely insane for me you guys. My travel schedule is bonkers: Hawaii, New York, Hawaii, Texas. I recorded an audio book in between all of that. Last week I was home for exactly one night before I had to leave again. I’m tired. I miss my kids and I want to hang out with my husband so much I could cry. No really. When I get home tonight I’ll wake up tomorrow and hustle to the office and a hundred different meetings. I am so thankful that the business has grown like it has. I am so grateful for opportunities to travel. But sometimes, like right now, it feels overwhelming.

So if you’re running through your own hectic season, I thought I would share some of the things I have done to help me stay sane… to help me bring my best.

How to Take Care of Yourself as a Mom

One Day at a Time – That has been my motto all month long. When I look at all the things I have to do in the next month, or even the next week I feel overwhelmed. So instead, I’m really practicing this old adage. I’m really taking it one day at a time and I think that has made all of the difference.

Prayer – I’ve been praying like my sanity depends on it… because it does! All of this feels like so much on my shoulders, especially with the added knowledge that we’re about to go to the next step in our adoption journey. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, take time to pray, take time to meditate or journal or listen to you favorite moment. Do the thing that helps you feel centered and strong. And then keep doing it, every day.

Organized Schedule – There is no way I could keep up with all of these things if I wasn’t organized. From my work and appointments to the boys school and activities, everything is planned in advance. If you need some tips on how to organize your own home you can check out this post. Want to know what my planner looks like? It’s right here

Organize Exercise and Pray as a Mom

Healthy Snacks – When I’m stressed I reach for food. It’s my comfort and a habit I worked hard to break myself of when I lost weight. I know if I start to indulge and eat junk food I’m going to feel even worse so I’ve been really focused on making healthy choices.

Drink Water – Drink water like it’s your part time job! Seriously, getting dehydrated can really throw off everything from your skin to your equilibrium. Do yourself a favor and carry around a bottle of water wherever you go. Add lemon or orange or even herbs if you want to mix up of the flavor but make sure you’re drinking eight glasses a day.

Get Some Sleep – Seriously, I cannot function if I’m not getting sleep. This is especially hard because when I’m traveling I’m in different time zones and I still need to be bright eyed and bushy tailed come morning. It also doesn’t help that I cannot sleep well when I’m away from my family so I appreciate having the option of ZzzQuil when I really need it.
