dorito taco salad

Growing up this “salad” graced every single potluck we had. My mom would make a huge bowl of it and everyone loved it so there would never be any leftovers. While I’ve gotten older and my tastes are, perhaps, a bit more refined my recipe for taco salad is as classic as ever. You can keep your black beans and your blue corn tortilla chips… as far as I’m concerned this recipe for Doritos Taco Salad is the only way to go! Watch this quick clip below where I explain why I love it or skip right on by for the full details! ~Rachel

how to make taco salad

how to cut lettuce

Start by washing your lettuce and then cut it up… I just use my hands to shred into pieces which is a great job to give one of your kids. I’m pretty sure one of my first endeavors in the kitchen as a child was shredding up the lettuce.

Now add your cheese, tomatoes, beans, olives and meat. Please note, I use a big mixing bowl to make my salad and then I put the finished product in a smaller prettier bowl for service. It just looks so much better that way!

If you’re making this for later this is the step to stop at. Don’t add the ranch and the chips until right before you serve it so everything will be fresh and crisp.

adding chips to salad

There are probably fanciers way to crunch up the doritos but I just use my hands again. Next I add the ranch dressing and toss it together.

I find this picture hilarious because in every shot we took I’m basically beaming down at my Taco Salad like it’s my newborn baby… whatever, I love food I can’t even help it!

Now you’re ready to serve it up… remember, this salad doesn’t keep well (the chips get soggy) so if you want to save some for later just keep the chips on the side and use as a topping instead of mixing them in.
