the chic site grapefruit cocktail

I have lived in Los Angeles since I was seventeen years old… that’s a whopping fourteen years for those of you who are counting. Los Angeles has a special kind of magic and if you spend any real time here you’ve probably experienced it too. I love this city! I met my husband here, I raise my kids here, I mean, I wrote a book entirely based on how much I love this city… so my crush on LA is kind of a thing.

All of this to say that when I discovered District West (imagine Etsy but for LA-Based designers and makers) I was instantly obsessed! When District West asked me if I could find a way to incorporate something from their site into ours I jumped at the chance. After combing through their website (where I could get lost for hours) I stumbled upon these glasses celebrating all the major LA freeways I knew what I would make! So check it out, in honor of Party Girl and all the cocktails in the book it’s a Rosemary Grapefruit Spritzer! This cocktail is incredible… light and refreshing and exactly what you should serve at your next party!

Once your glass has it’s sugar rim you’re ready to make your cocktail. If you don’t have a shaker, use a big mason jar and lid like I did! Pour ice and grapefruit juice in.

For rosemary simple syrup
  1. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  2. 1/2 cup water
  3. 2 fresh rosemary sprigs
For grapefruit zest
  1. 2 teaspoons grapefruit zest
  2. 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  3. lemon wedge
For cocktail
  1. 2 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (about 3 large grapefruit)
  2. 4-6 ounces gin (depending how strong you want them)
  3. 4 ounces club soda
  4. ice
Instructions
  1. Combine the sugar, water and rosemary sprigs in a small sauce pot. Place over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Boil for about 5 minutes and then remove from heat. Allow to cool completely.
  2. In a small dish, combine the sugar and grapefruit zest. Run a lemon wedge along the edges of each glass. Dip the glass, upside down, into the sugar and zest mixture to coat the edges. Fill with ice and set side.
  3. Fill a large cocktail shaker with lots of ice. Add in the grapefruit juice, a splash of simple syrup (as much as you'd like) and the gin. Place the lid on and shake it vigorously. Pour into the glasses, about halfway up and then top off with club soda. Garnish with grapefruit wedges and a sprig of rosemary. Enjoy!
