A few years ago we started the tradition of a Phone Free Thanksgiving. The idea was this… when we sit down to dinner in the Hollis Family we have a rule. No Technology at the Table. It’s sort of like the flight attendant right before you takeoff in an airplane because if it has an on/off switch I want you to put it away. Because it’s our rule at the dinner table we didn’t want our guests to be on their phones at Thanksgiving dinner either because if any meal should be savored and enjoyed it’s Thanksgiving! So I wrote a note to our guests and framed it and put it next to a basket where everyone could deposit their phones so they wouldn’t be tempted. It was a huge hit with our family and the holiday remained phone free until after dessert. If you like the idea of a Phone Free Thanksgiving, print out the sign we made for you. Then you just need to put it in an 8×10 frame and set a little bowl or basket next door. ~Rachel
