Lego Cupcakes Ninjago

Ninjago cupcakes can’t be found at any grocery store, and unless you’re going to specially order them at a bakery and spend tons of money on them, well you won’t be able to get a hold of them for that party your kid(s) really want.

We’re going to make these cupcakes with lots of help from the store. We’re using store bought cupcakes, sugar cookies, frosting and different colored fondant (yellow, red, green, blue, black and white).

The first step is to place a circle of yellow fondant onto each sugar cookie, so it looks like a LEGO. Spread the sugar cookie with a thin layer of frosting. That’ll make sure the fondant has something to stick to.

Now that we have all of our “LEGO” cookies, done. We’re going to transform them into Ninjago cookies. They need their ninja costumes, so roll out the different colored fondant and cut out circles. Then cut an opening for their eyes. Dab the yellow fondant lightly with a bit of water so that the two fondant pieces stick together.

The last step is to take some of those icing pens (you can find in most craft stores or baking supply stores) in black and white, and create eyes for the ninja LEGOS.

Then place the decorated cookies onto each frosted cupcake. And just like that, you have Ninjago Cupcakes!

Ingredients
  1. 12 store bought cupcakes
  2. 2 tubs vanilla frosting
  3. 12 plain sugar cookies (circular)
  4. fondant in different colors (yellow, green, red, blue, black, white)
  5. black icing pen
  6. white icing pen
Instructions
  1. Frost each of the cupcakes simply, with vanilla frosting. Spread a thin layer of frosting onto each cookie, so that the fondant has something to stick to.
  2. Roll out the yellow fondant on a surface that has been dusted lightly with cornstarch or powdered sugar. Once it's about ¼ of an inch thick, cut out into 12 circles, the same diameter as the sugar cookies. Place each yellow fondant circle on top of the iced cookies. Then roll out the other fondant colors in the same way and cut out into circles. Cut a rectangle in the center of each circle, that's for the eyes. Dab the yellow fondant (on top of the cookies) with a bit of water. That's so the colored fondant can stick to the yellow fondant.
  3. Using the black and white icing pens, make eyes and eyebrows in the opening of each fondant cookie. Place the cookie on top of the frosted cupcakes. Enjoy!
