TheChic_kahlua-eggnog

Eggnog was one of those things that perplexed me as a kid.  Why on earth would you want to drink a beverage with eggs?  Growing up, I only liked my eggs one way– and that was sunny side up.

I have since learned the delicious-ness that is eggnog.  Eggnog spiked with a splash of alcohol is a wonderful and warming holiday treat.  Traditionally, eggnog is made using eggs, sugar, milk, cream, nutmeg and cinnamon.  I often think of melted ice cream when I try to explain eggnog to first-timers.  Its sweet, rich, and creamy.

My family usually serves eggnog with rum.  This year I’ve add coffee liqueur to make it more exciting.  Kahlua has very little caffeine- meaning you don’t have to worry about drinking it late at night.  When I turned 21, Kahlua was one of my favorites.  My roommates and I experimented adding a splash of it with everything: soy milk, Diet Coke, chocolate milkshakes.  But the best combination, in my opinion, is Kahlua and eggnog.  This eggnog is sure to please all the coffee drinkers in my family.

I have always purchased the store-bought eggnog from the festive cartons at the market.  One day I will eventually try to make it from scratch.  Anyone have a recipe they’d like to share?!

Cheers!

Maryanne’s Chic Tip: Best thing about store-bought eggnog- it makes for a super easy eggnog ice cream.  Simply pour the chilled eggnog into your ice cream maker and freeze according to your machine’s manufacturing instructions.
