The words chic and Halloween don’t seem like they belong together do they?  Garish, gaudy or ghoulish seem a more likely pairing.  I think maybe this is why I was never too gung ho about decorating for this holiday. (I don’t like scary movies either.)  However, as a mom to two young children who love celebrating Halloween (that’s code for they love to dress up and consume copious amounts of candy), I eventually came around and started adding festive touches to our home over the years.  What I’ve realized is that the words chic and Halloween can actually play quite nicely together.

Here are a few of my favorite Chic-or-Treat ideas!

black lace covered pumpkins

I love this set of lace covered pumpkins and am pretty sure they would be a super simple diy project.  I especially love them because they would easily carry into Thanksgiving.  Paired with colors like rust, brown and gold they would make a gorgeous turkey day centerpiece.

black lace votives

And to complete this lace-y look, you could easily wrap a few votives with black lace too.

Chevron Halloween Wreath

Yet another reason to hoard fabric.  This festive chevron wreath would definitely welcome trick-or-treaters.

Halloween Luminaries

With soup season in full swing, finding cans to create these Halloween luminaries won’t be too hard at all.

diy owl pumpkins

Whoooooo needs a jack-o’-lantern when you can have an owl pumpkin?  (Like I could help it?)

washi tape pumpkin

Not in the mood to carve a pumpkin?  Put washi tape on it!  It’s the mantra for 2013 here at Chic Headquarters.

Halloween mantel

You can easily reuse some of your old costume accessories in your decorating as well.  Last year I used a boa and a mask to create my Halloween mantel.

See Halloween doesn’t have to mean spiders, rats, crows and skeletons…….unless of course that’s what you want it to mean.  Where do you fall on the Halloween decor – are you a not-so-spooky Halloween decorator or do you love to let the haunting begin at this time of year?  Show us your Halloween decor style on instagram and twitter with hashtag #TheChic.
