Valentine’s day is on Thursday… are you ready? Yeah, me neither. I’ll spend tomorrow night desperately scrambling to create 50 Valentine’s to cover both the boys classes in time for the party… oh, and then I’m supposed to make cupcakes for Sawyer’s friends (note to self, get on that!)
Regardless of all the other stuff I need to do, I’m adding breakfast making to the mix. I love the idea of a themed breakfast and my boys rarely think I’m as cool as when I pull out something like this.
I wanted to give you a few different ideas so you can add just one of them to your own breakfast or go for broke and knock out all three at once. Either way, your valentine is going to feel really special.
Starting with bacon… Set your oven to broil then use a single piece of bacon to make a heart shape. If it helps you, the middle of the bacon is the bottom of the heart. Create a bunch of the bacon hearts and then set them in the oven… it’ll only take about 10 minutes to broil them so be sure and pay attention.
Once bacon has cooked, place on a paper towel to absorb grease.
The pancakes were really easy… all you need is pancake batter, red food coloring and a heart shaped cookie cutter. Separate your batter into two bowls and mix a couple drops of food coloring into one to turn it pink.
Pour pancakes out onto your warm griddle or in a griddle pan… try and keep the circles the same size.
Once pancakes have cooked use a cookie cutter to remove the heart from the center of each.
I switched the hearts so they’d stand out but you could also keep them out and have a mix of hearts and pancakes with the heart shape missing… either would be cute!
Next I made breakfast potatoes (you can get my recipe by clicking HERE) I used some of the boys alphabet cookie cutters to cut X’s and O’s. Then I made the potatoes like a regularly do. If you don’t want to do potatoes this would also work with melon or apples!
When you’re all done assemble everything on the plate and present to your valentine!!
